Rise of the Runelords

Sandpoint, Day 1
The story of why Urk punched a child.

The PCs found themselves, for various reasons, drawn to the town of Sandpoint, one of the few points of Civilization along the Lost Coast. They all came for different reasons, but all wound up there for the the Swallowtail Festival. The town gathered near the new Cathedral to feast and enjoy the festival. The local inns were providing food and drink free of charge to the festival-goers, a fact that many of the PCs wholeheartedly took advantage of. The monk was forced to use all of his monastic discipline to withstand a rather generous helping of curry-spiced salmon. The druid drank some questionable wine-esque substance, possibly without the knowledge of it owner. Overall, a good time was had by all. That is, until the goblins showed up.

Just as the Pastor was about to begin speaking, a group of the little menaces jumped into sight and began attacking the citizens. The PCs responded by bringing several different buckets of hurt to bear in the form of fists, magic and an enormous hammer. The fight continued through the streets of Sandpoint as PCs fearlessly threw themselves into the fray (except the druid, who fearlessly threw his faithful pet T-Rex Cho-Gath into the fray while making sure that any remaining food was dealt with). The battle culminated with a showdown against a goblin commando wherein the ad hoc party saved the life of local nobleman by the name of Aldern Foxglove.

Once the town was clear of goblins, the PCs were met with cheers from the townspeople who had watched on from the cover of their homes as the fighting drew to a close. A crowd grew around the adventurers, lauding and and thanking them. Then, for no discernible reason, Urk punched a child right in the face. The young lad drew up a small cloud of dust as his unconscious body fell flat onto the street, an awe-filled expression still glued to his face. The cheering abruptly stopped as the boys mother rushed to his side, cradling his head in her arms, her face a mixture of confusion and fear as she looked up at the Half-Orc towering over her. Unsure of how to react, the rest of the crowd began to disperse.

The question still remained however, why did the Goblins do this? It is not uncommon for the occasional raiding party to attack Sandpoint, attempting to steal food or valuables, but the scale of this attack was much to large for that, a very worrying thought for the town’s sheriff Belor Hemlock. This worry was only made worse when it is discovered that the body of the town’s previous Pastor Ezakein Tobyn was stolen from Sandpoint’s Cemetery. Whatever is happening, it is far more dangerous that a few Goblins.
